Welcome to Hear the Word, Calgary’s First Bible Readathon. Join us in the exciting project of reading the Bible aloud, straight through from Genesis to Revelation. This readathon is more than a stunt. We seek to remind Calgarians that not only is the Bible the inspired Word of God, but that every promise it contains, rightly interpreted, is a gift to every human being on planet Earth, that every one of its commands, rightly interpreted, is to be obeyed as one obeys God Himself, and that the Bible is the only source for a reality-based worldview.

Purpose I: To remind Calgarians that the Bible is God’s self-revelation.

Purpose II: To combine Bible reading with urgent prayer, to call our city and nation back to the God of the Bible.

Dear Friend,

We at Be Ready! (previously known as Faith Beyond Belief) invite you to join with hundreds of
other Christians to remind Calgarians that the Bible is the Word of God! To make this happen Be
Ready is organizing a Bible Readathon that will begin on Sunday afternoon, September 22, and
continue, non-stop until the entire Bible has been read aloud. The Readathon will take place at
the First Baptist Church, which is as close to the city centre as we could get. From there it will
be livestreamed to the world!

All of this so that you and others will have the opportunity to underscore an ancient truth; those
peoples who base their society upon obedience to God’s revealed Word find themselves
blessed above all other surrounding peoples and nations.

As you can see, Be Ready! has taken on a monumental task.
We will need:

  • At least 300 volunteer readers who can read for 15 minutes each (extra volunteers might
    mean shorter reading times)
  • Shift supervisors who can commit to being onsite for one or more of 18 six-hour shifts to
    keep things running.
  • Prayer convenors who will call people together to pray this effort will succeed, which
essentially means praying for revival in our city.
  • Counsellors (evangelists) to be available should our reading convict people of their need
    for reconciliation with God.
  • Technical people who will trouble-shoot and maintain the audio-visual equipment.
  • Callers to connect with volunteer readers throughout the week to remind them of their
    upcoming reading times.
  • Hospitality workers to provide water for readers and refreshments for those who work
    behind the scenes.
  • Public relations people to explain what we’re doing, and why to interested news media
    and other Calgarians.
  • Prayer convenors who will call people together to pray for God’s blessing upon this
    effort.
  • Other volunteers as unforeseen needs arise.

The Hear the Word Challenge

If you haven’t figured it out already, here’s what we’re really doing. God has stated in Romans
10:17 that “faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ,” i.e., the Bible,
spoken and read aloud! With what we trust is holy zeal, we seek to prepare Christians to
challenge God to keep the implied promise of this verse. We are calling on God to respond to
the reading of His Word by bringing Calgarians back to a faith-foundation for every aspect of
life. And to that end we ask that you join us in praying God will grant us the grace to see this
return begin during our reading week.

Remember: The Bible alone is God’s full revelation of Himself and His work!

  • Thus the Bible alone is the foundation for a reality-based worldview!
  • Only the Bible offers the way for sinful man to reconcile with God!
  • Every Biblical promise, rightly interpreted, is a blessing for every member of the human
    race!
  • Every command, rightly interpreted, is a call to obedience from every person.
  • God’s Word (His Truth), combined with obedience and faith, are the necessary
ingredients for any nation to be blessed.
